FACT SHEETICT Courses at Kettlethorpe High School.
All of our year 7, 8 & 9 pupils have one lesson per week of ICT. They are following the National Strategy for ICT – solving problems and being challenged in a variety of ways. As well as learning the basics of text processing, spreadsheets, graphing, modelling and database management, pupils use sophisticated software to monitor and control systems.
In years 10 & 11, all pupils continue to have one lesson per week. In this time, they follow a short course at GCSE standard. This course comprises 2 projects which are internally marked and externally moderated (worth 60%) and a single, terminal examination (worth 40%)
Additionally, some pupils will choose to follow a full course at GCSE standard. These pupils will have a further 2 lessons per week. As well as completing the work described above, they will also complete an extended piece of project work. For these pupils, the year 10 projects count for 30%, the extra project counts for another 30% and the exam for 40%
A small number of our pupils choose to follow an applied ICT course. This is delivered in conjunction with Wakefield District College, where the pupils attend for some of their lessons.
