Managing Resources and Tourism

In this unit you will:

    • Find out what we mean by resource use and investigate the reasons for the very high rate of resource consumption in MEDC’s and the rapidly growing consumption in LEDC’s.
    • Explore the consequences of increased resource use, especially those that are non-renewable.  You will go on to study how we can achieve sustainable development through conservation, resource substitution, recycling, pollution control and the use of renewable energy.
    • Identify how different environments can favour tourism by investigating places like Kenya, The Alps and Florida in the USA.  You are likely to realise the need for stewardship and green tourism if the consequences of ever increasing tourism is to be reduced.
    • Understand countries need to manage, preserve and enhance the environment so that they can benefit local people, tourists and wildlife.  How can this be achieved in places like the Yorkshire Dales, Spain and the Himalayas?
