8 a.m. Monday 6 October………. Raining and cold! Would
the day be a miserable failure? Ingleborough can be bleak, wet, windy
and cold and for the 45 Year 9 Pupils, and 4 members of staff things
did not look promising.
By 5.45 p.m. the returning group confirmed the morning fears about
the weather BUT not the experience. Damp and bedraggled, all agreed
it had been a super visit. The walk to Gaping Gill and back along Clapham
Valley, through Trow Gill and along Clapham Bottoms had had its moments…..
two downpours and wet underfoot. Slipping and sliding made learning
about limestone scenery seem all the more real. Without doubt though,
the highlight was the guided tour of Ingleborough Cave. Chilly, dark
and damp, the features were so spectacular.
